One venue, restricted hours, and a town that has repeatedly chosen not to build courts.
Sebastopol is the most honest page on this site, because there is not much to dress up. The city runs no pickleball programming and has repeatedly declined to build dedicated courts. What the town has is tennis courts at a school, striped for pickleball, and a group of players determined enough to make that work.
That produces one constraint you have to plan around: it is a school, so the courts are not available during the school day in term time. Turning up at ten on a Tuesday in October means a locked gate. Afternoons, evenings, weekends and school holidays are fine.
For lessons that is workable, and West County players are often better served by a session that fits around the school timetable than by driving into Santa Rosa. If you would rather not work around it at all, Santa Rosa is about fifteen minutes east and Rohnert Park a little further.
One venue in town. Mostly there is nothing to reserve, and any drop-in fee is included in the lesson.
Brook Haven School's courts are public after 2:40pm on most school days and after 1:15pm on Thursdays, and all day when school is out. Play is first come, first served and free. Local players coordinate sessions through PlayTime Scheduler rather than a fixed roster, so that is the place to look for a game rather than a published timetable.
These are tennis courts with pickleball lines added, which means the net is at tennis height unless someone brings a portable one, and the fences sit much further back than on a purpose-built court. Neither stops you playing, but both are worth knowing: a lot of what feels like a technical problem on a shared court is really the court.
The Sebastopol Pickleball Association exists to promote the game locally for all ages and abilities, and it is the single best contact point if you want to find people to play with in West County. It is a volunteer group rather than a facility, so it can tell you where a game is happening but it cannot give you a court.
Times and programs above are run by other organizations and can change. Check the linked page before you travel.
Every format below runs at any of the venues above. No membership, no joining fee.
Never played? Beginners in Sebastopol start with either a private lesson (From $85) or a group lesson with a friend (From $45 / player). Paddles are provided either way. One is quieter, the other is cheaper each. What a first lesson is like.
One player, one coach, everything aimed at your game.
From $85Bring your doubles partner, or a few friends, and train together.
From $45 / playerCannot find an hour, or want a game looked at that I was not at? Send me footage instead and the coaching comes back online, wherever you played it.
Sebastopol is a short drive west of Santa Rosa and there is no travel charge. Because the courts are only free at certain times, booking a little further ahead here helps more than it does elsewhere.
Because the courts belong to a school and are in use during the school day. They open to the public after 2:40pm on most school days, after 1:15pm on Thursdays, and all day during holidays and at weekends.
None that are public and confirmed. The city has not built dedicated courts, so Brook Haven is the town's pickleball. If that does not suit, the nearest alternatives are in Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park.
Yes, and in term time weekends are the easiest option here because the courts are open all day. They are also busier, which is a reason to start early.
Unclear, and I would rather say so than guess. Sources disagree and the site is a school rather than a park with published facilities. Assume you are finishing by sunset unless you have seen otherwise yourself.
