The closest of the outlying towns, run by a river district rather than a city, and the only one where a gauge decides the season.
Guerneville has no city hall. It is unincorporated, so there is no municipal recreation department, no city beginner class and nobody to call about a booking. The courts belong to a small special district that has looked after the river communities since the 1940s, and its published rules for the whole park system run to about one sentence.
That light touch is honest rather than sinister, but it does set expectations. There is no ladder, no roster, no published open play and no local club with a page of its own that I could confirm. If you want a game with strangers you will end up driving east. If you want an hour of coaching on a quiet court under trees, this is one of the pleasanter places in the county to have it.
The compensation is distance. Guerneville is a short run west of Santa Rosa, so the price on the lessons page is what you book at, and it is the one outlying town on this site where a short-notice hour is realistic rather than a favor.

The Russian River Recreation and Park District was formed in March 1941 as a county recreation district, and its first job was creating swimming and beach areas by installing two summer dams. It covers Guerneville, Rio Nido, Guernewood Park and Vacation Beach, and over time it has taken on parks, tennis courts, a community garden and a dog park. It is a small operation with a PO box for an address.
The district's summary of its whole park system ends with the line "All our parks are first-come-first serve." There is no reservation system and no booking page. The pickleball here is at Henry N. Pacheco Memorial Playground, a small park among redwood trees, and the courts are shared with tennis, which the district's own description says outright. In practice that means lessons get set for the quiet part of the day, and if the court is taken when we arrive the session moves rather than being cancelled.
Guerneville has its own National Weather Service forecast point on the Russian River, and it is unusually specific about what closes and when. A little over flood stage and the Highway 116 junction with Neeley Road shuts; half a foot higher and the Drake Road junction shuts; higher still and River Road east of town goes under. In a wet week it is worth a look before anybody drives anywhere.
If you want a dedicated public pickleball court in this corner of the county, the newest ones are in Occidental rather than Guerneville. The sport courts at the Occidental Community Center were resurfaced in the summer of 2025 for dedicated pickleball, paid for by community fundraising, the Sonoma County Parks Foundation and Measure M, and they stay open into the evening. The same newsletter has nothing comparable for Guerneville.

Two things go wrong out here. Courts under trees stay damp long after open courts have dried, and a wet river can close the roads in and out. There is no indoor pickleball in west county at all, so a winter lesson usually means driving back in towards Santa Rosa.
Nothing with a page of its own that I could confirm. The park district runs no pickleball program and publishes no schedule. For organized play the honest answer is the county clubs over the hill, and the nearest good dedicated courts are in Occidental.
